Top 5 Tools He doesn’t Have Yet

It’s that time of the year again! Now you need to find a great gift for the car guy or girl that seems to have everything! As easy as a gift card can be, it’s a lot nicer to hand them a wrapped gift rather than just a card. There are so many tools available, but some are in everyone’s tool box already. Others are so specialized that they may never get used. Instead of the flashest coolest tools on the market I put together a list of useful but mostly uncommon tools. Evey tool made the list because I personally own them and work with them. So here is a list of my favorite tools that didn’t break the bank!

Italian Made Flush Cutters

One of my all time favorite tools! I love these Micro Cutters so much I own a handful and keep them in every tool box I own. If the person you are buying for does wiring or uses zip ties this is a cheap easy win! They are light, sharp, comfortable in your hand, and CHEAP! They work great with automotive wiring and they are the only tool I use when cutting the tail end off zip ties. I truly own 3-4 because I never want to be caught without a pair.

Long Handle ⅜” Drive Ratchet

A full time mechanic should already own one of these, but more than likely a DIY car guy may not. There is a good reason that a professional mechanic should own a Long Handle 3/8 Drive Ratchet. I believed they were a bit of a joke until someone let me borrow theirs. Now of all the ⅜ drive ratchets I own its the only one that gets regular use. It will not work in every situation simply due to being larger but with the added leverage they make every job that little bit easier.

Stanley Locking Adjustable Wrench

This is the tool I never would have thought I would have enjoyed. A car guy I follow online showed this Locking Adjustable Wrench and talked about how much he enjoyed it so I decided to give it a try. The idea seems simple enough, combine a set of vise grips and an adjustable wrench. But this is the wrench I grab when all others fail. I always seem to find hose fittings or odd bolts that don’t fit any wrench or socket. They are an odd ball size, or have already been damaged. My favorite place to use them is brass coolant fitting that has been sitting in a motor for years. I will never risk rounding off another brass fitting with a standard wrench again! These lock on and give you the best bite on the fittings that don’t seem to fit a standard size wrench.

Deburring Tool

Another tool you can never have too many of. Working with metal will always leave a sharp edge. Instead of reaching for a grinder a simple Deburring Tool is the easiest and fastest way to get rid of a sharp edge. If you work with metal often it can be nice to have a few and sprinkle them around your work area or toolbox to always have one close by when you need it.

Transfer Punch Set

My Transfer Punch Set has saved hours of frustration more then once. When fabricating you can use these punches to transfer a hole from one part to another with ease. The set has multiple sizes so it will work with most coming holes. Just grab the correct size and give them a tap with a hammer. You get a perfectly centered mark every single time!
